What is a floor trap?
A floor trap is a piece of equipment installed in the floor of a bathroom or a room where water needs to be drained. It’s flat in shape and the top surface is an openable grate which has a pattern like a strainer. The floor trap is connected to the drainage pipes of the house’s plumbing system. Floor traps can be made from a number of materials like pvc (polyvinyl chloride), stainless steel, etc. The opening grate is made from upvc (unplasticized polyvinyl chloride). These floor traps work by minimum water seal depths. The average seal depth can range from 50mm to 110mm.
The purpose of a floor trap is to block any big particles going down the drain using it’s strainer like design. Another important purpose of a floor trap is blocking and preventing bad and foul odours and gases from entering the room from the drainage pipes. Some traps are screwed into the ground and can be cleaned easily by unscrewing it. Many people just simply leave the grate open too.
