River Valley is a planning location located within the Central Location of the Central Area of Singapore. The planning location shares boundaries with Orchard in the north, Museum in the eastern, Tanglin in the west as well as Singapore River in the south.In the 1840s, there were two River Valley roadways that worked on either side of the Singapore River. The Singapore River was considereded as a valley between Ft Canning Hill, to the north side of the river, and Pearl’s Hillside, to the south side of the river. The roadways on either bank of the Singapore River were named River Valley Road– the existing River Valley Roadway as well as Havelock Road.
